Whittley Club April Weekend 9th to 10th April 2011
Outing Report by
Judy Oxley
What a great weekend!!!
The weather during the week was very ordinary with lots of wind and isolated downpours but as Brownie reported on Friday there were improvements in the weather for the weekend and by Sunday it was perfect.
As usual a great crowd was drawn to this weekend’s venue at Karragarra Island. Peter and Miranda were first on the scene at about 10.30am and they thought that they may be the only boat there for the weekend. At about 1pm Owen and I turned up which made two boats. A couple of hours later there was a sudden increase in numbers and we totalled 9 boats.
Most of the members put their boats in at Horizon Shores but Steve and Kelly motored down from Manly while George and Lynn motored up from Sanctuary Cove. Our members are very keen to travel to our months outing as Don and Del travelled down from Nambour and Tony, Gill and Zenni ventured up from near Murwillumbah.
We met ashore at the under covered BBQ area on Karragarra Island for the usual nibbles and drinks followed by an enjoyable BBQ dinner, more drinks and lots of chatting.
A committee meeting was scheduled for Sunday morning after which several members gathered for a BBQ breakfast. Before too long more members came ashore to join the social gathering and to soak up the beautiful weather conditions.
It was almost lunch time before the last of the members left the island to head back to their boats. One by one the boats left their moorings to head home after another successful weekend on the water. On our way back to the boat ramp we stopped to raft up with Don and Del. I took the opportunity the throw a line in the water and while we sat there enjoying a cup of tea I caught a fish!!!
