What a fabulous location for our March outing with 16 boats spending the night off Budds Beach in the heart of Surfers Paradise.  Photos - click here

The morning started out at Marine Stadium near the Gold Coast Seaway in quite calm conditions, but by early afternoon the last of those anchored up in Marine Stadium set off for the short cruise to Budds Beach.

Passing Marina Mirage and its marina of floating palaces we putted through he 6 knott zone before throttling up after passing under the Gold Coast Highway bridge on our way to Budds.

Great anchorage with a sandy bottom, although very shallow out from the stormwater pipes that split the beach in two halves.

For the stern-in step-off anchorages, the northern half of the beach between the pipes and the boat ramp provide the best drop-off for maintaining water at low tide but not too far from the bank.

The on-shore facilities were first rate with electric BBQs shower and toilets and playground for the young kids.

The evening BBQ was magnificent as we watched the sun set over the buildings.

Dawn saw a hive of activity on the water surface with Trevally chasing bait fish and the Trevally being pursued by some pro-anglers in their fishing platform (without success I believe).

The bay off Budds was like a mill pond and as the hot air balloons drifted across the sky in the distance, a hearty breakfast was downed.

Most boats packed-up and heading off mid-morning as a storm front was approaching from the south.

All-up another great Whittley Weekend. Photos - click here
