Whittley
outing to 103/109 on the weekend 28th and 29th May. The
original May outing date clashed with the boat show so our Whittley weekend was
moved to the following weekend. There was a roll up of 4 Montereys, 1
Cruisemaster and 1 Fleetmaster for the overnight stay. A
special BRAVO to all these families who participated in the events of the
weekend: Booths, Cattanachs, Cooks, Oxleys, Pines and Phipps/Johnsons. It
was a beautiful day on Saturday with a slight breeze from the west but as the
day advanced towards evening the temperature plummeted and the breeze
strengthened. We all met on the beach about 4pm for our usual 'happy hour' but
it turned cold so we decided to make a fire. Everyone went in search of kindling
and came up trumps. On the beach we dug a hole in the sand at the top of the
crest which looked like a sand bar. As no one had a BBQ we ventured back to our
boats to cook dinner. Several members went back to the camp fire and braved the
cold until just before the tide came right up to the top of the crest and over
the other side. The fire and the bank of sand around it were the only things
visible above the water. Saturday
night was uncomfortable on the water as the strong breeze did not let up all
night. A few anchors moved about during the night but no dramas. Graham and Sue
had a good nights sleep only to wake in the morning to find that there was no
water under their boat. (Excellent tactic for a good nights sleep when there's a
swell, beach it up - Ed) Sunday
was also a great day but a bit cooler. The wind changed around to the east. A
few of the members lunched at the yabby banks just south of Jumpinpin bar. Goodbyes
were in order and we all went home. Looking forward to the next outing on the
Tweed. Submitted
by: Judy and Owen Oxley. Some
comments from the weekend are as follows: Keryn
Johnson/Garry Phipps - Fire on the beach great with pre dinner nibbles
although no Barbie on the beach so most members returned to boats for dinner.
The few that braved the cold evening went til the small hours of the morning. Sue
Booth - had a great nights sleep - very quiet - only to find out that they
were 'high and dry' so there was no slapping on the side of the boat. George
and Lynne Cook - Great bonfire on the beach. Met lots of new faces. Anchors
dragged well. Great weather. Sue
and Graham Booth - Being our first Whittley outing we didn't know what to
expect. We had a fantastic time and everyone was so friendly. We will certainly
try to make as many outings as possible. Don
and Nicole Cattanach - Good weekend. Met new members. Who had the brightest
fire? |
